Hooves

Best practice

Naturally smooth hoof wall

Smooth, uniform shape free from cracks, rings, flares, etc.

Small cracks can be normal

Needs intervention

Hoof trims should occur every 6-8 weeks.

Cracked and long hooves can be a sign of neglect.

Immediate jeopardy

Severely cracked or hooves that curl up at the toe signify extreme neglect over a long time.

This is an emergency situation.
