Feed and forage

Best practice

Hay and forage is a complete food source for most horses.
Grazing pasture grass should be 4" or higher.

Needs intervention

Horses need a constant supply of forage.

An average horse weighs 1000# so each horse needs about 20# of hay per day on hand..

Immediate jeopardy

Overgrazed pastures or insufficient supply of hay on hand.

Silage and corn stalks are not suitable forage for horses.
